Cool Roof Technology More Than Just Groovy

Earlier this year, the NSW Government dumped a plan to phase out dark roofs in favour of cooler, lighter coloured roofs on new homes.

But new research from UNSW shows the adoption of so-called cool roof technology would significantly reduce energy bills, lower indoor temperatures, and improve the health of vulnerable people.

Cool roofs are now the hottest thing for Australian cities

Outdoor air temperature and cooling energy consumption can be significantly reduced by solar reflective material, research finds.

A UNSW Sydney research team’s technological and cost-benefit analyses of adopting cool roof technology across major Australian cities has found that city-wide implementation of cool roofs would reduce energy bills, lower indoor temperatures, decrease urban heating and improve the health of vulnerable populations.
